The GTI engine is substantially different to the TSI which is a completely different engine to the MPI. Apart from engine management to adjust the torque curve to fit an unnecessary extra cog, there is a larger turbocharger operating at a higher boost pressure. There are said to be some serious changes within the block as well.

Depending on what year Golf, the differences are basically that the GT offered a sporty spec level, but with lower powered engines than the GTI - either the 1.4 TSI twincharger engine (turbo and supercharged engine) or the 2.0 litre FSI (Fuel Stratified Injection), which is a non Although you won’t find a lot of differences between a GTI and a normal Golf inside, there are just enough details to keep you happy (such as the GTI-specific gear knob, steering wheel and the seats). Engine and Performance. The 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder in the Mk6 makes 210 PS and 207 lb-ft of torque. Golf R, a bit more weight (vs GTI) makes a difference. Steering feels more weighted, dull on center & tends to understeer. Unflappable, will not lose traction under WOT and sticks to the road almost freakishly. Fast but a tad undramatic I find the R really benefits/needs stage 1 tuning to bring it to life. Feb 2, 2015. #2. Neither engine will outlast the other. Reliability and maintenance are two separate things. Maintenance costs will be greater with the tdi because of fuel filter interval. Otherwise both require service every 10k, dsg at 40k. Mk7 has no timing belt interval (we'll see how that goes). Significant differences between the 2023 Jetta GLI and the 2023 Golf GTI begin on the exterior. The Jetta GLI is always a four-door sedan with a trunk. Whereas the Golf GTI is either a two or four-door hatchback.
